Welcome

My name is Alison, and I am the founder/party director of Toronto-based A Hot Pink Petticoat, the life of every party.

I'm thrilled to have you visit! This blog is everything party. I talk about local (Toronto) vendors, and how to incorporate eco-friendly ideas into your event. I have occasional guest bloggers stop in to share their love of parties while providing advice, tips and more. Such guests include real-brides, photographers and cake designers.

I touch on etiquette, how to save money and my newest feature, Song Book, where I share my favourite, non-traditional songs that would be a great touch to any wedding. I also provide links to those crafty individual's who have provided the internet world with free downloads, and fabulous DIY projects perfect for your event.

Get comfy and take a look around. I’d love to hear from you so please drop me a line at events@ahotpinkpetticoat.com.

Bi-Coastal Bride: Final Countdown

My last post before the wedding - crazy how time flies!  On Wednesday, J & I will be flying to Toronto to wrap up some last minute details.  Family and our wedding party arrive on Thursday and Friday, and then Saturday is the "big day."

Despite having a 16 month long engagement and a lot of interest in letting our creative juices out, we still have a ton to do.  We have to finish our programs, and place cards, and pretty much everything that involves a paper good.  And figure out accessories.  And pack.  And make a list of important stuff and check it twice.  It's not that we were major procrastinators, it's more that life got in the way of our wedding planning.  J had the Bar exam, I transferred offices at work, and our social life got interesting.  Every weekend has had at least one event and we'd both much rather hang out with friends than fold pieces of paper in half.

While in some senses I feel a bit overwhelmed with what's left, I keep repeating the same mantra to myself: "remember the dress, the shoes, the rings, and get ourselves there.  Everything will work out."  While we have spent an insanely large amount of time on DIY stuff, that's not what makes the wedding.  Yes, I'd be disappointed if I forget some of our little details, but what will make our wedding day enjoyable will be spending time with our family and friends.

And boy, were we surprised when we got some of our RSVPs in.  We have guests arriving from Europe, California, Ohio, New Jersey, New York, Massachusetts, Ottawa, Montreal, and all over the GTA.  We are just thrilled to get to see some buddies that we haven't gotten together in a while.

Since this is my last pre-wedding post, I'd like to thank Alison for letting me blog here, and all of you readers for providing feedback and letting me contribute over the past year.  Once I arrive in Toronto I think that it will feel more "real" to us, and I can't wait to share pictures and recaps of the day later on.

Catch you on the flip side!
